Pieter Vermeulen (b. 1983) is a philosopher, writer and independent curator based in Antwerp, Belgium. His educational background lies in philosophy and cultural studies (MA). After his studies, he started working as a producer-manager, coordinator and art critic at Existentie. From 2008 until 2011, he was guest professor in philosophy and philosophy of art at University College Ghent – Faculty of Fine Arts (KASK) and Faculty of Music. As both a curator and theorist, Pieter contributed to projects such as the media exhibitions Fantastic Illusions (MOCA Shanghai/Buda Kortrijk) and Resonance (Bund18/World Expo 2010 - Belgian Pavilion, Shanghai). He participated in ICI’s Curatorial Intensive in New York City (2010) and was offered a curatorial residency at Vessel in Italy (2011). He moderated and co-/organized different international conferences, e.g. on Double Take by Johan Grimonprez, Tickle Your Catastrophe! and The Documentary Real (Vooruit, Ghent), and has articles published in many exhibition catalogues. Recently he co-authored (together with Sam Steverlynck) ‘The Making of the MAS’, the catalogue for the new city museum in Antwerp, designed by Willem-Jan Neutelings.
